Cryptonics
Definition
Cryptonics is a broad term encapsulating a range of technologies and sciences. It includes the study of information, the study of charge and the engineering disciplines of chargeway engineering and informatics.
A crypton is a looseley defined unit of cryptonic information.
Etymology
In Marth, the word “electronics” was long used to describe the study and engineering of chargeways. In the first millennium, this word fell out of fashion during the First Division. The Contraflex word chargeway, used in terms such as chargeway theory and chargeway engineering, replaced Marth expressions of the same idea. The Citizenry similarly received much of the responsibility for managing information among the Empire’s cryptonets, making the old Marth term informatics similarly obsolete.
Only during the reign of Emperor Darren Udhain, who decreed the creation of the Udhar Academies, was there once again a need for a Marthiflex term for both disciplines. Master-Scholar Bonifex the Principled coined the term cryptonics, a portmanteau of the words cryptex, which translates into Contra as ‘hidden by means of complexity’, and oleionios, meaning ‘pertaining to discovery or the strife thereof’. The new term was defined in the 3rd Udhar Dictionary as ‘the study and engineering of chargeways and their usage in transporting and mutating information or data.‘
Contestations
Most recently, the stewardship of cryptonics has not been contentious. For the past five centuries, the great and ancient House Opiioris has presided over their manufacture while the Designer House Freeheart presides over applied theories in the field.
Before this time, cryptonic stewardship was further split. The House Opiioris has been, since inception, the main provider of the Empire’s supply of raw materials needed for the manufacture of cryptonic devices. However, prior to the 4931 consolidation, Houses Opiioris and Globbard shared this stewardship. While House Opiioris was solely responsible for obtaining raw materials, House Globbard’s Ressort was the manufacture of cryptonics. In 4931, the House Opiioris bought out and absorbed House Globbard and with it, its extensive technical staff, many of whom carried the prestigious and now-extinct Oppelstadt name.
