Summary

The Discipline’s wise guidance has enabled men to build Her Empire and enact the Mother’s will across the Galaxy. While my colleagues will be quick to point out that no institution is elevated above another in Majora’s eye, there is no doubt in this chronicler’s heart that the estate of the Burghership is the essential glue that allows Her Empire to shine as it does and always has.

Within the Burghership, the Axis Doctrine prohibits privilege without responsibility, embodied in the Discipline as the Synthetic Dichotomy of Patent and Ressort. While this is true of every House, some Houses have proven to be specialized and rare, such that the Empire classifies them into a series of special categories.

Designer Houses

A Designer House is one whose members have established new technologies or who embody the Mother’s spirit of ingenuity. Early in Empire history, efforts were made to gate this classification behind clear metrics or measurements, but each time a heuristic had been decided, it would inevitably exclude the rival of the House who had suggested it. To this day, nothing has ever come of such nonsensical efforts.

The classification of Designer House can today be seen as a title of industry and science. Many such houses have provided a vital technology to the Empire and / or retain stewardship over such a technology.

Examples

  • House Oppelstadt: Perhaps the most famous Designer House for its long lineage of brilliant thinkers, philosophers and engineers. Most widely known for the invention of the Brunswig by Borobex of Oppelstadt. This House was officially disbanded in the 5th millennium, less than 80 Etes ago. Today, prior members of House Oppelstadt, now disenfranchised, have found homes with other Designer Houses like House Freeheart and House Opiioris.
  • House Freeheart: Provided the New Cryptonic Paracomms Protocol in the first millennium and still shepherds it today.
